Political parties' U-turn on major issues

Political parties are like chameleon. They change colour when in power and in Opposition. So is the case with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other political parties including the Congress too. When in power they take a different stand on important issues and in Opposition they always create hurdles for the ruling government by raising minor issues.

That is why when the government decided to allow FDI in retail all hell broke with the main Opposition BJP raising the banner of revolt. Now the FDI issue is at the centre of political storm. Reports surfaced in leading national daily shows that in 2004 theBJP had promised FDI but in 2009 it took U-turn. This time too it has declared its stiff opposition to the move. It is another story that party has rejected such reports saying that it was never in favour of FDI in retail.

The fac is that the BJP had come into power by promising to build a Hindu temple on the demolished Babri mosque. Also, it had assured its hardcore Hindutva voters to introduce Uniform Civil Code for all and other matters. Despite remaining in power the BJP did nothing.

Many of its die-hard followers were upset that the party did nothing regarding building of a huge Hindu temple. If that is so then why was the movement launched that created division in Indian society on religon line. There are other issues also on which the BJP has been exposed.

But it is not alone in doing so. Most of the political parties have mastered the art of subterfuge.

Rather than working for development they involved in dividing people.
