The last US soldier is yet to pull out from Iraq

After illegally occupying Iraq for eight long years the US combat troops finally pulled out of the country that once was ruled by a secular tyrant Saddam Hussein. Since the fall of Hussein at the hands of the US-led coalition forces a lot has changed in a country that despite having a Shia majority was ruled by a Sunni. The prolong battle with the US had its merit and demerit as many people lost their lives in the transition. Also, it sparked fighting between the two sects who for long lived peacefully as neighbours under Hussein rule.

Now in the absence of the US combat troops, it would be interesting to see how things shape up in Iraq. But mind you not all US soldiers have left the country as being painted by the media. With this withdrawal, the American Administration has made it clear that it won’t be involved in day to day combat operation as it used to do earlier when there was stiff resistance to the presence of US forces on Iraq soil.

All said, America continues to have influence in important strategic position like oil industry and other money minting sector. The US army pullout from Iraq is incomplete.

When will remaining America forces quit the country completely? Right now the US authorities have not come out with any time plan. Historically the US has rarely quit from a country that it occupied once. It continues to have its bases in many countries for strategic reasons.

It appears that in Iraq too its bases will be functional for long until Iran and other Middle East countries opposing its policies are silenced and weakened.
