The signs in the Gulf region are not positive with unprecedented pressures being mounted on Iran to give up its nuclear ambition. The way things are unfolding it appears that the United States, Israel and the West won’t rest until Iran’s infant nuclear facilities are destroyed. The politics of carrot and stick is on full display in the region with other regional players also suggesting Iran to forget about nuke. But Iran has been firm and is unwilling to give up its sovereign rights.
Its government argue if Israel in the region can have nuke then why not it. However, the fact of the international rule is different. Israel is pampered by the US and west as it serves their interest in the region. On the other hand, Iran comes in axis of evil and hence right or wrong it has no rights to develop nuke. Moreover, for Israel to remain all powerful in the region the West and the US will never allow any country to gain nuke.
Saddam Hussein was punished for his ambition to acquire nuke. So Iran too may pay a heavy price for clinging to the nuke idea. Till now war has not taken place but stealth operations are on to destabilize the Iran regime.
With world’s opinion not on its side, Iran has only a few options either it gives up its nuke ambition or be ready for a war. In case of a battle Iran will be the worst sufferer. The country still doesn’t have the capability to stand the combined assault of the US, West and Israel.
