The Congress-led UPA government’s woes brim over after anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has decided to unroll another protest against anti-graft. Not satisfied with the Lokpal Bill, the Gandhian has made it clear that this time his protest would be longer and powerful one than the earlier one at the Jantar Mantar.
Interestingly, Anna has also invited all political parties to join him in his fight against corruption. It would be interesting to see which parties turn up in support of Anna.
The main opposition BJP has a good chance to benefit from this political gridlock. With UP elections just round the corner, it is opportunity for the BJP to side with Anna. Will BJP do so?
Though the BJP has also hit hard against the ruling government for failing to end corruption but its hands too are soiled in corruption. The party’s track record has not been good. Many of its chief ministers have been caught red handed. The Karnataka chief minister was the latest victim following alleged corruption charges against him.
For the Congress it is a Catch 22 situation. If it fails to introduce a strong Lokpal Bill Anna has already announced to campaign against the party in the coming state elections. However, a lot will depend on the response of Anna movement this time. If it succeeds in getting a huge crowd as it did earlier, then obviously it will bring in new trouble for the Congress.
