Of late the media, experts and sociologists in India have been talking about Young India. It was expected that the next Big Idea would be unrolled by young India or young politicians. For a while things had appeared to be difficult with most of our leaders being 70 plus, including prime minister and opposition leader. Still there were hopes with everybody having faith in young Rahul Gandhi.
Overnight every political party from Congress to BJP started showcasing young blood. Many Indians thought that the old days of young India being ruled by Old would be over. All eyes were on young and charismatic leaders, who would lead from the front. But nothing like this happened as once again a 73-year-old man came out of the blue and created an example.
Anna Hazare not only took the establishment by storm but within days attracted a captive audience mostly drawn from youth. His meteoric rise in popularity has left many management and communication gurus in the cold. They have been forced to rethink their earlier stand of a young blood unrolling Big Idea.
When Anna started his fast in Delhi, some people knew him in Maharashtra his birth place. Other than many had only heard about him. But the movement made him a household name.
Since then many youngsters are trying to emulate him for good.
