If we go by the reports coming out from Russia then there positive signs that once again Vladimir Putin’s party has succeeded in getting the popular votes. A large number of Russian voters have put their faith in the United Russia party that is run by Putin, who is also country’s prime minister. Some 48.5 per cent voters have supported Putin. Though the percentage has come down from 2007 when 64 per cent voters had supported him. Still he has got enough votes to be in control of Dum for the next five years.
Kudos to Putin for the way he has been successful in holding to power so long. Following the disintegration of USSR in 1991, Putin has been the first leader to achieve such a goal.
During his regime Russia has also improved economically. After becoming the head of Russia, Putin, a former KGB man, has played the patriotic card well. In post-Russia collapse, the majority of Russians were down and out. Their confidence level had been knocked as in the fight between socialism and capitalist it was the later that one.
But a lot changed since Putin came into power. He made his people realize that they were still part of the historic past in which former USSR was at part with world’s leading power the United States. But to continue for long Putin has to give some positive results as merely rhetoric can do the magic for long.
