26/11 and war on terror

Today we complete three years of the Mumbai attacks in which a handful of Pakistani-based dreaded terrorists had taken India's finance capital captive for days. At that time Indians and the world watched with bated breath the end of the crisis after nearly 60 hours of operation as the terrorists were smoked out and one arrested. Since then a lot has gone by. At that time the government to end public outrage had promised to check such strikes.

But alas it could succeed in its endeavour! More attacks followed in the coming years. India continues to be vulnerable to terror attacks. Victims still cry for justice and a few corrupt politicians are back in power. What a tragedy. India that is emerging as a economic power is unable to protest its citizens from terror attacks.

Till now the country has failed to fight the scourge of terrorism. Merely statements would not do. For things to change the government should call an all party meet and discuss the issue in detail so that such attacks could be stopped in future. The task is not easy with terrorists striking at will, but efforts in this direction can be taken. The onus is on the politicians. Rather than looking to the US and other Western countries for help, India should formulate its own strict policy to deal with the terror attacks. Citizens should also come forward to cooperate with intelligence agencies in cracking such cases.

Winning the war of terror (WOT) is important for India's growth.
